Description: Clients with feeding and mealtime issues can be challenging and often benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach. Occupational therapists often find that these children also require the services of professionals such as dieticians, nutritionists or medical professionals. This talk will illustrate how occupational therapists and dietician nutritionists can work together to meet the goals of their clients to best address feeding and eating challenges. Case illustrations will be used to highlight strategies for building a successful, collaborative, working relationship. Come listen in on a conversation between these two professionals as they discuss the “how” and “why” they collaborate for more successful outcomes for these demanding clients.
By the end of this LiveTalk listeners will be able to:
- Identify key steps to building a relationship with a dietician nutritionist
- Identify key strategies to use in collaboration with dietician nutritionist to foster common client goal achievement

About the Speakers: Jaymie Stavdal MS OTR/L earned her Master of Science degree in occupational therapy, graduating Summa Cum Laude and as Valedictorian of her class at the University at Buffalo in New York. During her time at UB, Jaymie served as President of the UB Student Occupational Therapy Association and member of Pi Theta Epsilon OT National Honor Society. Jaymie received national recognition from the American Occupational Therapy Foundation as the 2013 recipient of the Mary Fiorentino Memorial Scholarship Award for excellence in qualifications and potential for future professional development. Jaymie currently works full time at OTA The Koomar Center, serving as a mentor and as the Visual Vestibular Coordinator. She also serves as President of the Board of Directors for Camp Avanti, an intensive occupational therapy program for children with sensory processing dysfunction and/or learning disabilities. She has experience working with children in the home, school, and clinic setting, as well as running parent/child community-based sensory motor groups and summer camps. Jaymie is a certified provider of Therapeutic Listening and Integrated Listening Systems and has training in CranioSacral Therapy, DIR/Floor-time, and trauma/attachment.
Bridgitte Carroll, MS, RDN, LDN: Bridgitte is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a passion to dramatically improve her patient’s health. She has always been a nutrition and food guru but she started her formal nutrition education in undergrad at Miami University in dietetics. She then continued her Masters and supervised practice at Simmons College. She was exposed to the amazing world of functional nutrition which opened her eyes on how she could work with patients using a root cause approach. Bridgitte draws passion about helping others from her own experiences and imbalances. She not only utilizes personalize nutrition along with using food as medicine but she discusses lifestyle modifications to propel her clients to optimal wellness. She provides in-depth one-on-one consultation services, monthly public lectures and is a supplement and food buyer at Johnson Compounding and Wellness in Waltham.
