Description: SAFE PLACE is an intervention model which integrates sensory integration intervention strategies with a mental health approach to promote self-regulation, trauma healing, and attachment. This LiveTalk will discuss the key components, intervention approaches and strategies used in this interdisciplinary approach.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this LiveTalk listeners will be able to:

  1. Identify 3 key components of the SAFE PLACE model.
  2. Describe 2 sensory-based activities which may be used to promote attachment bonding between parent and child.
  3. Describe 2 sensory-based activities which may be used to promote self-regulation.

Course Level: Introductory. There are no prerequisites for this course.

About the Speakers: Sarah Sawyer is the President, Co-Owner, and Clinical Director at OTA The Koomar Center. Sarah has broad experience evaluating and treating individuals with SPD and has specialized training in Listening Therapies, Trauma and Visual Vestibular difficulties.  Sarah regularly trains and presents to educational facilities and other professionals broadening understanding of Sensory Processing Dysfunction and Sensory Integration Therapy.

Marsha Raredon works at with children with complex emotional and psychological needs. She has contributed to the book, Current Perspectives and Applications in Neurobiology: Working with Young Persons who are Victims and Perpetrators of Sexual Abuse, discussing sensory integration and trauma. The interplay between emotional health and sensory processing has long been the focus of her therapy as well as the nature of how our physical and psychological health work together in the context of our environment and culture.
