Description:This course will introduce the concept of telehealth evaluations including a brief review of the AOTA Telehealth Position Paper. Various types of sensory integration based OT Telehealth evaluation will be discussed with a special emphasis on a model that uses observations and parent interview as the primary source of information. Topics that will be presented include: the clinical reasoning process needed to choose appropriate evaluation assessments and activities, tips for structuring the evaluation session, effective ways to conduct a parent interview, and ways to observe sensory processing through activities that are easily done in the home.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this LiveTalk listeners will be able to:
- Examine which assessments to use during a telehealth evaluation session.
- Identify the steps needed to prepare for a telehealth evaluation including choosing activities, communicating with parents, and structuring the session in a way to gather pertinent information
- Identify key strategies for setting up an effective parent interview
- Interpret observations of sensory processing during evaluation activities.

About the Speaker: Anne is a certified and licensed occupational therapist. She received a Masters of Occupational Therapy degree from Boston University, and previously received an MFA in Dance from the University of Illinois. Anne was an occupational therapist and sensory integration specialist with the Boston Public Schools, and she currently works for the school system as a sensory integration consultant. Prior to working for the Boston Public Schools, she was a therapist, and then the Clinical Director of Occupational Therapy Associates-Watertown. In these positions she worked with children with a wide range of disabilities, with special emphasis on children with autism. She has lectured on sensory integration theory and intervention throughout the U.S., and presents frequently for parent and teacher groups in the Boston area. In addition, she was the founding Executive Director of The Spiral Foundation at OTA-Watertown.
