Description: This webinar will introduce participants to the Adult/Adolescent Sensory History© (ASH), a standardized self-report questionnaire for sensory processing and praxis that is based on Ayres Sensory Integration® theoretical framework. Dr. May-Benson, the author of the ASH, will present the strong psychometrics of this measure, describe the various components and scoring outcomes of the measure and discuss the clinical reasoning to use when interpreting the results obtained. The ASH provides a comprehensive sensory/motor profile of each client which reliably identifies challenges in sensory modulation, sensory discrimination, and praxis as well as other specific sensory-related challenges. Numerous cases will be presented to illustrate interpretation of the measure. Questions are welcome throughout the presentation.
Course Schedule:
- Hour 1- Introduction to the ASH and ASH psychometrics
- Hour 2 – Interpretation and clinical reasoning with the ASH
Learning Objectives: By the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to
- State the psychometric strengths of the ASH.
- State the various components and scores obtained on the ASH.
- Understand the clinical reasoning needed to interpret the results of the ASH.
Course Level: Introductory. There are no prerequisites for this course.

About the Speaker: Dr. Teresa May-Benson, ScD, OTR/L, FAOTA is an expert occupational therapist renowned for her clinical research, mentoring and education related to related to sensory integration theory and intervention, praxis, and social competency. She is currently the owner/CEO of TMB Education, LLC and serves as President and practicing occupational therapist at OTR, Inc, a private occupational therapy practice specializing in sensory integration and social competency for children and adults across the lifespan, located near Philadelphia, PA. Dr. May-Benson has a diverse background as a clinical practitioner, having worked in private and public-school settings as well as private practice. She is the author of the ASH, as well as numerous book chapters and articles on praxis and sensory integration she completed her doctoral dissertation on ideational praxis. Teresa is an education and research faculty member at the SPIRAL Foundation. In her role of educator, she currently serves as adjunct faculty at Widener University and is past faculty at Tufts University and the University of Indianapolis. She is the 2023 recipient of the AOTF A. Jean Ayres Award, and has previously received the Virginia Scardinia Award of Excellence from AOTA for her work in ideational praxis.
