Description: Attachment issues are increasingly more prevalent in families today. The reasons are wide and varied. This month’s LiveTalk will discuss the collaboration of psychologists and occupational therapists in the treatment of children with complex trauma and attachment concerns. Through presentation of a case study and guided discussion, representatives from each discipline will examine the case with their individual treatment lens. Our guest speakers will discuss how they work together to address the individual’s and family’s goals within their treatment sessions and how they collaborate together to support the family and child. How did this collaboration come to be? What are the challenges of sharing the “Expert” role? This live talk will address these and other questions surrounding the where, when, how and why to successful collaboration between psychologists and occupational therapists.

About the Speakers: Lindsey Byrd is an Occupational Therapist at OTA The Koomar Center. Lindsey earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy and her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to joining the OTA team, she worked with infants and toddlers and their caregivers through Early Intervention services. Lindsey has received training in DIR/Floor-time, Therapeutic Listening, and the S.O.S Approach to Feeding and is actively pursuing a Program for Essential Competencies in Sensory Integration (PESCI) certification.
Dorothy T. Richardson is a Clinical and Developmental Psychologist, Adjunct Professor at UMass Boston Department of Psychology and Program Director of UMass Boston Infant-Parent Mental Health Fellowship. Dr Richardson founded the first community-based outpatient infant-parent mental health clinic in the Boston area, The Rice Center for Young Children and Families at the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy where she served as clinical director for 7 years. Dr Richardson has worked with young children and their families for over 30 years in teaching, research and clinical capacity.
