Description:Postural challenges can impact many areas of occupation including, but not limited to, learning, feeding and play. In order to evaluate and identify these challenges, it is important to understand typical postural development and how primary movement patterns relate to typical development. Once challenges with primary movement patterns are identified, we can then address postural challenges at the appropriate developmental level during intervention. Jaymie is excited to share her insights and knowledge on this topic and the many treatment activities she has gathered while working as a clinician at OTA The Koomar Center. This sixty-minute introductory discussion will also provide the listener with additional resources for learning about postural challenges.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify the typical progression of postural development
2. Identify how primary movement patterns relate to typical development
3. Identify strategies to evaluate and treat challenges in postural development in diverse settings

About the Speaker: Jaymie earned her Master of Science degree in occupational therapy, graduating Summa Cum Laude and as Valedictorian of her class at the University at Buffalo in New York. During her time at UB, Jaymie served as President of the UB Student Occupational Therapy Association and member of Pi Theta Epsilon OT National Honor Society. Jaymie received national recognition from the American Occupational Therapy Foundation as the 2013 recipient of the Mary Fiorentino Memorial Scholarship Award for excellence in qualifications and potential for future professional development. Jaymie currently serves on the Board of Directors as Secretary for Camp Avanti, an intensive occupational therapy program for children with sensory processing dysfunction and/or learning disabilities. She has experience working with children in the home, school, and clinic setting, as well as running parent/child community-based sensory motor groups and summer camps. Jaymie is a certified provider of Therapeutic Listening and has training in DIR/Floor-time.
