Featuring: Ronald Tirella
originally recorded February 23, 2015

LiveTalks are hour long audio-only podcasts. The LiveTalk is part of the Sensory Integration and Mental Health Concerns bundle.

Description: The reality is that children with sensory integration problems grow up to be teenagers, then adults, with sensory integration problems; each new life stage brings new expectations, and demands. A good therapist understands the differences in how young adults experience sensory dysfunction, and how it impacts their lives, and knows that most valuable sources of information on these topics are the people who live with them. In this LiveTalk, participants will hear from Mr. Ronald Tirella, who was diagnosed with and began receiving treatment for sensory processing difficulties as a teenager. Participants will hear firsthand his experiences growing up and living with sensory integration problems and receiving sensory integration intervention.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this LiveTalk listeners will be able to:

  1. Identify two types of sensory processing/integration dysfunction.
  2. List three examples of how sensory processing problems may be experienced by children, teens and young adults.
  3. Identify two sensory-based strategies which may be used to address sensory processing problems in teens and young adults.
