LiveTalks are hour long audio-only podcasts. The LiveTalk is part of the Sensory Integration and Mental Health Concerns bundle.

Description: Addressing sensory and trauma-related issues in children can be a challenge for both parents and therapists (occupational therapists and mental health professionals alike). Increasingly, trauma-informed intervention programs are involving parents in the intervention process. This LiveTalk will discuss the interface between problems in sensory integration processing and trauma-informed care for children and the role that caregivers can take in addressing these problems.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this LiveTalk listeners will be able to:

  1. Identify 3 sensory strategies for self-regulation that parents can use with their traumatized child.
  2. Describe how therapists can facilitate the parent role in trauma-informed care of their child.
  3. Define trauma-informed care and how it applies to implementation of sensory-based interventions with children
