Description: This LiveTalk discusses interventions for oculo-motor difficulties. The interplay between vestibular dysfunction and oculo-motor problems is particularly important for therapists to address, and optimum intervention often includes collaboration with behavioral or developmental optometrists. Listeners will learn about signs and symptoms of ocular dysfunction and examine when therapists should refer to outside professionals, as well as the rationale and clinical reasoning for given interventions and activities.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this LiveTalk listeners will be able to:

  1. Identify signs and symptoms of oculo-motor dysfunction and their relation to vestibular functioning.
  2. Describe when to refer to outside professionals such as behavioral optometrists.
  3. Identify clinical reasoning and rationale for activities to address oculo-motor control that are appropriate for allied health therapists.

Course Level: Introductory. There are no prerequisites for this course.

About the Speaker: Celia Hinrichs is a doctor of optometry specializing in behavioral optometry and vision therapy. Her practice is in Sudbury, Massachusetts. In 2011 she was honored by the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) with their President’s Award; she continues to serve as a special consultant to the COVD International Examination and Certification Board.
