Description: Individuals with mental health concerns and those who have experienced trauma frequently demonstrate difficulties with sensory processing related to self-regulation. Most often this encompasses problems with sensory modulation. This LiveTalk will discuss the importance of understanding how sensory modulation problems and neuromodulation difficulties are reflected in interventions for individuals with a variety of mental health concerns from children to adulthood and across practice settings. The Sensory Modulation Program developed by Dr. Champagne will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this LiveTalk listeners will be able to:

  1. Describe three goals of the Sensory Modulation Program.
  2. Describe how sensory modulation intervention activities may be implemented in in-patient and out-patient settings.
  3. Describe three sensory-based activities which may be used to facilitate self-regulation and coping with individuals with mental health concerns.

Course Level: Introductory. There are no prerequisites for this course.

About the Speaker: Tina Champagne, OTD, OTR/L, CCAP is the program director for the Cutchins Programs for Children and Families in Northampton, MA USA. She is also an international consultant through her own business, Champagne Conferences & Consultation. She earned her doctorate in occupational therapy from Boston University and her master’s in education from Springfield College in Massachusetts. Tina is passionate about creating and implementing nurturing, healing, and trauma informed therapeutic programs for children through older adult populations. She also enjoys engaging in research and has authored numerous publications.
