Description: Understanding the perspective of individuals with autism spectrum disorder can be challenging.  Even more so is knowing what to expect from individuals with ASD and having an idea of what the future might hold for a child with ASD.  Dr. Bill Wong is an occupational therapist diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome who speaks candidly and with passion about how to be a self-advocate, how he overcomes the challenges of autism and how others with autism can live fully in achieving one’s goals.  This livetalk will discuss Dr. Wong’s inspirational journey and he will offer his first-hand advice on topics from supporting OT employees and students with ASD to helping young adults with ASD transition to academic and work environments to providing professionals and parents with important information on how to accept, encourage and support those in their lives with autism to truly live life fully.

About the Speaker: Dr. Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L is arguably the best known occupational therapist with autism spectrum disorder.  An avid social media mogul, Dr. Wong strives to increase awareness of living with ASD through speaking, blogging, tweeting and facebooking.  Diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at age 25 while pursuing his master’s degree in occupational therapy at the University of Southern California, Dr. Wong has gone on to complete his doctorate in occupational therapy from USC, start a successful telehealth organization, and work successfully as an occupational therapist.  He was an invited speaker for TEDxGrand Forks and the American Occupational Therapy Association. He currently works at a skilled nursing facility in addition to keeping up with his social media and autism self-advocacy efforts.
